LICENSE RENEWAL

To earn all the FREE CE required to renew your license go to https://www.car.org/education/licenserenewal and follow the steps below:

  • Click the appropriate renewal package button to claim your classes.
  • Once claimed, you will need to visit OnlineEd.com to access your classes.
  • When you have completed your license renewal courses, visit the DRE website at http://www.dre.ca.gov/Licensees/RenewLicense.html to renew your license.  You will need to upload the 8-digit number that can be found on each individual certificate you receive after you have passed the course exams with a 70% or better.

In total, there are two ways to renew your real estate license in California. Please visit the OnlineEd Continuing Education Help Page for more information: https://www.onlineed.com/pages/help/students/CACErules.html

Licenses can be renewed through the Department of Real Estate. https://dre.ca.gov/

If you signed up for your CE credits through the FREE 45CE program, you’ll find your CE credits on your Completion Certificates for each license renewal class you’ve completed when you log in to www.onlineed.com

Please visit: https://www.car.org/education/licenserenewal

Click on the appropriate FREE 45CE License Renewal package that suits your needs. Once you have claimed your package, log in to OnlineEd.com to access your classes. When you complete your license renewal courses and exams (by passing with a score of 70% or better), you’ll receive a Completion Certificate for each class. Once you’ve completed the entire package, visit the DRE’s license renewal page on their website: http://www.dre.ca.gov/Licensees/RenewLicense.html

On the DRE site, use the 8-digit numbers found on each Completion Certificate to confirm that you’ve completed your various CE requirements. Please note, you cannot upload your renewal information to the DRE until 90 days prior to your expiration date.

There are no extensions possible on the 45CE courses.  However, you may re-enroll in the package. You can re-enroll once every year and you will only need to complete the classes you were unable to complete in the previous package (in most cases). To download the package again, visithttps://www.car.org/en/education/licenserenewal.DRE requirements do change from time to time and C.A.R. Education will always make every possible effort to make sure our offerings will help C.A.R. Members. It is the agent’s responsibility to stay informed with bulletins and updates the DRE is sending out.

There is a timer to make sure you have logged the minimum required number of hours for the course. If you finish the reading before the required hours, you should leave your computer on and open to the course page so your progress can continue until you have met the required hours.

Continuing Education exams are timed and per DRE regulations, each exam is timed with 1 minute allotted for the same amount of questions. This means that an exam that has 10 questions will be timed with 10 minutes but the student can spend more than a minute on some questions. It is not strictly “1 minute for every question.”

The California Department of Real Estate would like to make sure that students get the most out of their continuing education. The DRE has set two specific rules for continuing education (Regulation 3007.3):

Students may not study course materials for more than 8 hours per day. Your final exam will be locked until it has been determined (automatically) that you have been allowed the necessary study time.

Students may not take more than 15 hours of final exam credits in one day. This means that you may not study for all of the courses and then cram 45 credit hours of testing into one day. However, students are free to either study and test over each course at a time, or they may study all the courses and take the tests afterward over the course of several days.

Users will have access to the courses for up to 12 months after registering for a course package. You can take the courses within these packages up to 4 years before your license expiration date. However, you cannot upload your renewal information to the DRE until 90 days prior to your expiration date.

DRE Requirements can NOT be waived nor can exceptions be made for students who are late to get started on their education before renewal deadlines. Learn more about How to Renew Your License, On-Time, and Late Renewals here: https://dre.ca.gov/Licensees/RenewLicense.html

9 hour "Survey" course can be taken for Subsequent license renewal CE credit, but additional individual courses will be needed to complete the 45 hour CE requirement. Students must complete 45 hours of CE, regardless of whether they take the 45 hour CE package, or a 9 hour survey course plus additional individual courses that will add up to a total of 45 hours. The content in the C.A.R. 45 hour Free CE package meets all DRE requirements and is free to members. Questions? Contacteducation@car.org.

EXAMS

For LearnMyWay® Webinars:

If applicable, exams will be made available before 5pm on the business day after the class. At that point, all students eligible for exams and recordings will be notified via email. Exams are assigned through www.onlineed.com, and students have 1 year to launch the exam. In short, you take the class, you’ll get an email the next day with a link to the exam.

For Online Anytime Classes:

Exams are built into the courses and can be launched after completing all required coursework.

There are 2 chances to pass each exam in each class. If both attempts are failed, students can re-enroll in the class and attempt the exam again.

Any other CE course that was purchased through store.car.org or C.A.R. Education otherwise will only have the 2 chances to pass.

You can retake the test on OnlineEd.com as many times as you need to up to 1 year from the purchase date at no extra cost. You will see the failed course page but read what's on the screen, and you will be able to go through the process of retaking the exam.

Continuing Education Exams:

Continuing Education (CE) exams are timed and per DRE regulations, each exam is timed with 1 minute allotted for the same amount of questions. This means that an exam that has 10 questions will have a total exam time of 10 minutes available but the student can spend more than a minute on some questions. It is not strictly “1 minute for every question.”

Non-CE Exams:

If you are taking a non-Continuing Education (CE) course, there is no timer for the exam and you can take the exam as many times as you need to until you pass.
